Boushuu uchiwa (fans)

Boushuu uchiwa ? fans ? are one of the three big uchiwas in Japan. Uchiwa making in the area began in the 1870s to 1880s, when housewives and elders learned the process from skilled uchiwa makers in Tokyo. The boushuu uchiwa are made from bamboos, and have a characteristic design of Edo. Visitors can also sign up to take part in the final process of the uchiwa making.
